iRig™ MIX

The first mobile mixer for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad

iRig™ MIX is the first mobile mixer for iPhone, iPod touch or iPad devices. iRig MIX offers the same controls you would expect from a professional DJ mixer (crossfader, cues, EQ and volume controls, etc.) in an ultra-compact mobile mixer that can be used with a huge variety of iOS DJ mixing and other apps.

A DJ Mixer

iRig MIX allows DJs to use a traditional setup with two devices (one plugged into each of the independent channels) OR a single iOS device. For the single iOS device setup, the output of the single device is split into dual-mono and sent to the individual channels. Additionally – for the first time on any DJ mixer - iRig MIX can be used for mixing any type of audio source (coming from mp3 players, CD players, etc.) with an iOS device using automatic tempo matching and beat syncing. This is accomplished with X-Sync, a feature that works in combination with the DJ Rig free app from IK Multimedia that is included with iRig MIX.

Not just for DJs

iRig MIX also provides the perfect mixing solution for solo musicians or small ensembles that use one or more iOS devices to play live. It features an extra guitar/microphone input that facilitates processing with popular apps like AmpliTube and VocaLive or any other apps that offer real-time audio effects and processing. Its standard RCA output connectors provide direct connection to PA systems or powered speakers.

Maximum Portability

The ultra-compact size and low profile of the iRig MIX allows it to be easily be carried in a regular iPad bag. Plus its low-voltage power supply (only 5VDC) lets it be powered not only by any regular mobile device charger, but also by suitable iOS battery pack or laptop USB port for maximum mobility to mix anywhere.

iRig MIX includes 4 free apps (downloads from the iTunes app store): DJ Rig, the new professional DJ mixing app from IK, AmpliTube, the most popular iOS guitar amp and effects app, VocaLive the processing app for vocalists, and GrooveMaker, the loop based beat and groove making app.

Features:

2 stereo inputs with gain, bass, treble and volume controls, independent cue on each channel with LED indication and channel cross-fader

Instrument/microphone/extra input with volume control can be processed by iOS apps (such as AmpliTube, VocaLive)

Stereo output with RCA connectors, master level and LED meters

High quality, pristine sound

Quality headphone output for master or cue monitoring with independent volume control

Input switch splits Input 1 into dual-mono for use with DJ mixing apps on a single iOS device

“X-Sync” mode allows auto-sync with any audio source using the included DJ Rig free app

Can also be powered with battery packs and mobile chargers

Includes 4 free apps: DJ Rig, AmpliTube, VocaLive, GrooveMaker

RME UCX

RME UCX

The Fireface UCX is a highly integrated pro audio solution in an ultra-compact format for studio and live recordings. It continues RME's long tradition of designing compact high-end interfaces, packing into a half-rack size unit what usually would be spread out over two or three 19 inch panels.

In doing this the Fireface UCX marks a new packing record: 300 electronic components more than inside the already well-stocked Fireface UC! In a tremendous effort RME packed once again all the latest technologies, introduced with the award winning flagship UFX, plus a bunch of newly developed ones, into a half 19 inch housing with full mobile usability.

The result is an awesome combination of RME's most successful products: Fireface UFX, Firefaces UC/400 and Babyface. The Fireface UCX is not just a smaller version of the smash hit UFX, with the X-core, the preamps and the complete effects engine, the UCX continues the tradition of RME's tremendously successful compact interfaces, and combines it with the great usability of the Babyface through the included RME remote. With the Fireface UCX RME reinvented an already perfect product, by improving existing features and characteristics plus adding sophisticated new ones:

Universal Audio Apollo

Universal Audio Apollo

Universal Audio is proud to announce Apollo, a high-resolution audio interface that combines UA’s analog design heritage with esteemed UAD Powered Plug-Ins in a sleek, elegant recording system for Mac and PC. With Apollo, music producers and performers can finally track through UAD Powered Plug-Ins in real time, via a professional 18 x 24 FireWire/Thunderbolt™-ready audio interface that delivers class-leading 24-bit/192 kHz sound quality.

“Apollo is the culmination of 10 years of analog and digital audio development here at UA,” said Bill Putnam Jr., Universal Audio founder. “In many ways, it’s brought the analog and digital sides of our company together. With Apollo, we’re delivering the sound, feel, and flow of analog recording with all the conveniences of modern digital equipment, including next-generation Thunderbolt technology.”

Apollo is, first and foremost, a well-built, high-resolution audio interface, featuring premium mic preamps and top-end converters to deliver the lowest THD and highest dynamic range in its class. Its Core Audio and ASIO* drivers ensure compatibility with all major DAWs, including Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Cubase, Live, and more. Moreover, Apollo’s Console application and companion Console Recall plug-in (VST/AU/RTAS) provide control and recall of all interface and UAD plug-in settings within individual DAW sessions, even months and years later.

Apollo differentiates itself from all other audio interfaces, however, via its onboard UAD-2 DSP Acceleration. This onboard processing allows for recording through UAD-2 Powered Plug-Ins — with nearly instant sub-2ms latency — so that music producers can quickly monitor, audition, and “print” audio using a wide range of popular analog emulation plug-ins from Ampex, Lexicon, Manley, Neve, Roland, SSL, Studer, and more.** In this way, Apollo’s sonic character and tonal options are virtually limitless. The onboard UAD-2 processors are also available for mixing and mastering, offloading processing from the host computer.

Notably, Apollo offers compatibility with Intel’s new Thunderbolt technology, as found on the newest iMacs, MacBook Pros, and MacBook Airs. Available via a user-installable Thunderbolt Option Card (sold separately), Thunderbolt provides lower latency, reduced audio buffer size, improved performance at high sample rates, and greater UAD plug-in instances versus FireWire.

“Thunderbolt technology makes possible a whole new class of products to enhance music production workflows and creativity,” says Jason Ziller, Director of Marketing and Planning for Thunderbolt technology at Intel® Corporation. “Products like Universal Audio’s Apollo are using Thunderbolt to rock music producers’ worlds.”

Apollo incorporates numerous design hallmarks from classic UA analog gear, including its fast, easy workflow. Dedicated front-panel controls are present for all the most common features, including preamp gain, channel selection, mic pad, +48V phantom power, low cut, monitor level, and dual headphone controls.

Apollo’s connectivity includes 4 digitally controlled analog mic preamps, 8 balanced line inputs and outputs, dual front-panel JFET DIs, digitally-controlled analog monitor outputs, 8 channels of ADAT, 2 channels of S/PDIF, word clock I/O, FireWire 800 (standard), and a Thunderbolt expansion bay — making it a well-equipped centerpiece for the modern project studio.

The Apollo High-Resolution Audio Interface will be available in both DUO CORE and QUAD CORE processing formats (with either two or four Analog Devices SHARC processors, respectively). Apollo will be shipping in the first quarter of 2012.

Novation releases Twitch Live Translator

Novation has launched a free application for the Twitch touchstrip DJ controller that allows users to control parameters and build custom mappings in Ableton Live and other software packages.

The Twitch Live Translator receives ‘raw’ MIDI messages generated by the controller and translates them into messages that can be ‘learned’ and applied to parameters in Ableton Live.

Anyone can run this application, but Max/MSP users will have the advantage of being able to open the source code to edit and tweak to their own preference.

Twitch was designed in partnership with Serato for its Itch software (which comes with Twitch), and a Traktor mapping and overlay have been available for Twitch since the controller was unveiled. The Twitch Touchstrip DJ controller has a built in two-in four-out audio interface and 16 backlit trigger pads, as well as conventional DJ mixer controls and plenty of rotary encoders, making it particularly useful for Live control.

Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 - 2 in 2 out USB audio interface

Focusrite have launched a new audio interface, the Scarlett 2i2. The Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 is a 2-in/2-out USB 2.0 audio interface

The Scarlett 2i2 features 2 Focusrite microphone preamplifiers which provide an exceptionally clean signal path for mic-, instrument- or line-level sources, and supply phantom power to condenser mics. Best-in-class digital converters capture pristine-quality audio for professional-sounding results, and a new unibody chassis — a single piece of red anodised aluminium — surrounds the 2i2’s internal circuitry and controls.

The Scarlett 2i2 comes with unique LED-halo signal indicators, which encircle each of the gain controls. These glow green when an input signal is detected and turn red if clipping occurs, to provide a quick and easy way of ensuring that an appropriate signal level is achieved.

Other features include:

A pair of quarter-inch TRS jack outputs for feeding powered studio monitors or an external audio device, such as a mixer.

A large knob for accurate control of the output level, and direct monitoring allows for zero-latency tracking.

A quarter-inch headphones output with dedicated level control.

The interface is bus powered so an additional power supply is not needed, meaning the interface is truly portable.

It’s bundled with the Focusrite Scarlett Plug-in Suite as well as Ableton Live Lite.

The Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 will be available from October and will be priced at £119.99 inc Vat
